The nation’s immigration authority has been carrying out ongoing special operations in Malaysia since the start of the new year. Up until now the immigration officials have detained over 6,000 immigrants and some of them are from Bangladesh. The immigration officials did not disclose the specific number of Bangladeshis apprehended during the operations. There were just 8 raids totaling 545 individuals that were identified as Bangladeshis.

The prisoners were held for not possessing proper work permits or passports for overstaying their visas and for breaking immigration regulations. According to Director General of Immigration Datuk Ruslin Bin Jusoh who took part in the coordinated operation by Malaysian law enforcement authorities. Furthermore, on February 6 and 7 the immigration agency apprehended 50 foreign nationals in Johor state and on February 8. It detained 16 Bangladeshis in Melaka state. The Malaysian Immigration Department apprehended twenty-six foreigners.

The Malaysian Immigration Department carried out a minimum of 870 raids nationwide to start the year. 9,169 immigrants’ documents were confirmed during the 870 raids.
