Tariq Ahmed Siddique’s wife and daughter sought Maltese citizenship, rejected due to complaints

Shaheen Siddique, wife of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s military adviser Tariq Ahmed Siddique, and daughter Bushra Siddique have applied for citizenship in the European country of Malta but have been rejected. Shaheen Siddique applied for citizenship twice in 2013 and 2015. In 2015, mother and daughter Bushra Siddiq also wanted to become citizens of Malta. However, the Malta authorities rejected their application due to allegations of money laundering, corruption, fraud and bribery.

This information has been highlighted in a report of the UK newspaper The Financial Times on Friday (January 10). The Financial Times reported on the leaked documents. According to the documents received by the newspaper, various media reports in Bangladesh had accused an organization named Prachhaya of illegally occupying various government lands in Dhaka. Shaheen Siddique’s application was rejected due to his association with that institution.Shaheen Siddique was the chairperson of Prachaya.   She had mentioned the post in his application in 2013. The next time Shaheen Siddique mentioned his association with an organization in Chittagong instead of Prachhaya. Also, according to the 2011 document, Bushra Siddique was the director of Prachhaya at that time.
