Tens of thousands join a pro-Palestinian march in Washington, DC, saying no ceasefire, no votes.

On Saturday, tens of thousands of supporters of Palestine marched through the heart of Washington, DC, in what organizers thought would be the biggest US protest of its sort since Israel started bombarding Gaza following Hamas’s attack on the nation last month.

In conjunction with parallel activities taking place across the US and around the world, the audience participated in the National March on Washington: Free Palestine, waving Palestinian flags, carrying banners, and chanting slogans.

Marchers were led to Freedom Plaza in the nation’s capital by organizers who represented or were supported by numerous pro-Palestinian organizations, and they then circled around the White House.

This is the moment to support the beleaguered Palestinian people! Bombs are falling on Gaza every hour. Israel deprives its citizens of food, water, and electricity. There will probably be tens of thousands more fatalities. The coalition Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (Answer) declared on its website, We must act!

The march was a part of a growing movement to seek an end to US and western military funding to Israel, as well as a truce in the Israel-Gaza war. Protests in New York, Seattle, and other US cities also joined the movement. Similar protests in favor of Palestine were held in London, Berlin, Paris, Ankara, and Istanbul, aimed at both Israel and the governments of the supporting west.

Television video from London revealed sizable crowds staging sit-down protests that blocked several areas of the city center. Reuters, demonstrators screamed ceasefire now and in our thousands, in our millions, we are all Palestinians while brandishing signs that said Freedom for Palestine.
