Three Killed, 64 Injured in Karachi During Independence Day Celebrations

At least three people, including an elderly man and an 8-year-old girl, were killed and over 64 others injured after celebratory gunfire during Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day celebrations in Karachi.

According to police and rescue officials, the incidents occurred across several areas including Azizabad, Korangi, Liaquatabad, Lyari, Mehmoodabad, and Orangi Town.

Despite repeated warnings, such incidents have become a regular occurrence during Independence Day celebrations in Karachi. In 2023, at least 95 people were injured, and in 2022, the number was 80, all due to celebratory gunfire.

In connection with these incidents, more than 20 suspects have been arrested. Law enforcement authorities also seized modern firearms and ammunition from the suspects. Cases have been filed, and investigations are currently underway.

Law enforcement agencies have condemned the reckless firing, calling it dangerous and irresponsible, and urged the public to celebrate in a safer and more responsible manner.

Similar incidents occurred in previous years as well, with 95 people injured in 2023 and 80 in 2022 during Independence Day celebrations in Karachi alone.
