Tigers Roar in Napier: A historic ODI victory over New Zealand for Bangladesh

In the last game played at McLean Park, Napier, Bangladesh crushed New Zealand by nine wickets, writing a fairytale finale to the ODI series. In addition to securing their first-ever ODI triumph on New Zealand soil, this decisive success sparked excitement throughout the cricket community.

Bangladesh had to put in a tremendous amount of work to avoid a whitewash after falling behind 0–2 in the series. And they certainly delivered! The Black Caps’ batting order was shredded by their speed attack, which reduced them to a pitiful 98 runs in just 34.1 overs. Because of the Tigers’ fierce bowling, New Zealand’s score against Bangladesh was the lowest in 45 ODIs.

With a scorching session of 3 for 22, Taskin Ahmed led the attack, as Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam each contributed two wickets. The constant pressure caused New Zealand’s batting to collapse, failing to form any meaningful partnerships.

Bangladesh’s pursuit, on the other hand, was quite easy. Before Das left for forty, openers Liton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto tore up the Kiwi bowling. Together, they set up a 92-run stand. After reaching 53 without losing, Shanto led his side to victory in 15.1 overs.

This historic victory was a declaration of tenacity and faith more than mere numbers. Despite suffering crushing losses in their opening two games, the Tigers remained determined. They demonstrated their strength against a difficult opponent by playing with fire in their stomachs.
