Transport Strike in Rangamati, Vehicles are Not Running in Khagrachari
Following the violence in Rangamati and Khagrachari, the organizations representing hill students called for a 72-hour blockade that has obstructed transportation on both roads and waterways in the two hill districts.
Due to vandalism and arson in the Banarupa Bazar neighborhood of Rangamati on Friday, all kinds of vehicles, water launches, and boats were stopped in the area.
Transport Owners’ Associations and Workers’ Federations leaders have said that they have halted transportation owing to attacks, a lack of security, and vehicle vandalism. They plan to keep the roads blocked until further orders. Traffic on Chittagong Rangamati and Chittagong-Khagrachari was already suspended on Friday night.
Because of the violence, things in Rangamati and Khagrachari are still tense. According to local sources, army police and BGB are currently patrolling together. Stores, markets, and other establishments are closed.
More than thirty cars were vandalized yesterday, according to Mohiuddin Salim, president of the Rangamati Bus Owners Association and the Launch Owners Association. A number of cars caught fire. The proprietors of the transportation companies have chosen to halt operations indefinitely in protest.
