Trump-Musk Conflict Intensifies: Is a New Political Party Emerging in the U.S.

Tensions in U.S. politics have escalated following a public dispute between former President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Their relationship hit a boiling point after Musk openly criticized a tax and spending bill from Trump’s administration. Trump has warned Musk of severe consequences, while Musk has retaliated by calling for Trump’s impeachment.

Amid this feud, Musk has hinted at the possibility of forming a new political party in the U.S. On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he spoke openly about the idea for the first time, according to CBS News.

In its report, CBS News stated that on Thursday, June 5, Musk mocked Trump in multiple posts and conducted a poll among his 220 million followers. He asked, “Is it time for a new political party in the U.S. that truly represents the moderate 80%?”

The next day, Musk revealed that 80% of participants supported the creation of a new party. He later endorsed a follower’s proposed name: “America Party.”

The name “America Party” bears a resemblance to Musk’s political fundraising organization, America PAC.” Notably, this PAC contributed nearly $239 million to support Trump and other Republican candidates in the 2024 elections.

However, establishing a new political party in the U.S. is far from simple. Besides the Democratic and Republican parties, several third parties already have ballot access in almost all states. A new party must navigate different and complex regulations in each state to secure candidacy.

Additionally, while Musk can contribute an unlimited amount to America PAC, direct financial contributions to an official political party face legal restrictions—capped at less than $1 million.
