World Trade Center Memorial and Tribute Center Remembers 9/11 Victims Annual Ceremony Honors Those Lost in the 2001 Attacks

On the 23rd anniversary of the September 11th attacks, the World Trade Center Memorial and Tribute Center in New York. It held a solemn ceremony to honor the victims of the tragedy. Thousands of people gathered at the site to pay their respects and remember the lives lost on that fateful day.

The ceremony featured a variety of poignant tributes, including readings from the names of the victims, musical performances and speeches from government officials and family members of those who were killed. A moment of silence was observed at the exact time the first plane struck the North Tower.

The World Trade Center Memorial and Tribute Center is a powerful symbol of resilience and hope. The memorial features two reflecting pools built in the footprints of the Twin Towers, as well as a museum that tells the story of the attacks and their aftermath.

On September 11, 2001, Islamist terrorists hijacked two flights and crashed them into the Twin Towers. One group led by Mohamed Atta crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the northern facade of the North Tower at 8:46:40 a.m.; the aircraft struck between the 93rd and 99th floors. Seventeen minutes later, at 9:03:11 a.m., a second group led by Marwan al-Shehhi crashed the similarly hijacked United Airlines Flight 175 into the southern facade of the South Tower, striking it between the 77th and 85th floors.

The ceremony served as a reminder of the enduring impact of the 9/11 attacks and the importance of remembering those who were lost. It also highlighted the resilience of the human spirit and the ability of communities to come together in times of tragedy.
