Bird Flu Outbreak Declared ‘Widespread’ in Massachusetts, State Officials Confirm

Massachusetts state officials have issued a warning regarding the rapid spread of bird flu, confirming that the virus is now “widespread” among bird populations across the state. The announcement comes after several reports of avian influenza cases in both wild and domesticated birds.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR), the outbreak has affected a wide range of bird species, with officials stressing the importance of enhanced surveillance and preventive measures. “The bird flu is now significantly present in various regions of the state, and we are taking immediate action to control its spread,” said a spokesperson from MDAR.

Farmers and poultry owners are urged to strengthen biosecurity practices to prevent further contamination. Additionally, the public is advised to avoid contact with sick or dead birds and to report any unusual bird deaths to local authorities.
Although the risk of human transmission remains low, state health officials are closely monitoring the situation. The outbreak has raised concerns about potential impacts on the poultry industry and wildlife conservation efforts in Massachusetts.
Authorities are continuing to work in partnership with federal agencies to manage and contain the spread of the disease, with ongoing testing and monitoring in affected areas.
