Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson, Begum Khaleda Zia, has left for the United Kingdom for medical treatment The 79-year-old former prime minister, who has been undergoing medical care for several years due to various health complications. The Royal Air Ambulance carrying Khaleda Zia left Hazrat Shahjalal Airport at 11:46 pm on Tuesday, January 7. BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia has left for London for better treatment. The former prime minister is suffering from liver cirrhosis, heart disease, lung arthritis, kidney diabetes and various complications. “Begum Khaleda Zia’s health condition requires specialized treatment that is not available in Bangladesh. She is receiving medical advice from renowned experts, and we hope she will return to the country after completing her treatment,” said BNP Secretary General “Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir”.

Khaleda Zia’s motorcade slowed down in the crowd of leaders and activists on the streets of Dhaka to bid farewell to the beloved leader. Heavy traffic also occurs on the road. Begum Khaleda Zia’s motorcade entered the airport after about two and a half hours at 10:45 PM. Khaleda Zia’s immigration was done earlier in a special process. Due to late arrival at the airport, Khaleda Zia’s flight could not take off on schedule, the flight schedule had to be changed twice. The flight carrying Khaleda Zia will land at London’s Heathrow International Airport at 7 am local time on Wednesday from Dhaka via Doha. The air ambulance has four doctors and paramedics along with six members of Khaleda Zia’s medical board. Family member Khaleda Zia’s younger son’s wife Syeda Shamila Rahman, Chairperson’s advisory council member Enamul Haque Chowdhury, executive committee member Tabith Awal, Khaleda Zia’s private secretary ABM Abdus Sattar and some private officers and employees is accompanying her. Khaleda Zia’s elder son Tariq Rahman and his wife Zobaida Rahman will be present at the airport. It is reported that Khaleda Zia will be taken to the London clinic directly from the airport.

BNP sources have assured that the party remains united and committed to its ongoing political activities, despite Khaleda Zia’s physical absence. The party has called for continued peaceful protests and resistance against the current government’s policies, which they describe as oppressive.
