Direct File Sharing Between Android and iPhone Now Possible

Tech giants Google and Apple have finally broken a long-standing barrier in the smartphone ecosystem. With the latest update to Google’s Quick Share, Apple’s AirDrop support has been integrated for the first time, allowing Android devices to send files directly and seamlessly to iPhones, iPads, and Macs. This new integration removes longstanding platform limitations, making cross-platform file sharing easier and more secure than ever.

The updated Quick Share can now detect nearby AirDrop-enabled devices, enabling Pixel 10 series users to transfer photos, videos, and documents directly device-to-device without the need for third-party apps or cloud uploads. Since the transfer bypasses any server, the risk of data leaks is significantly reduced. To use the feature, iPhone users must enable AirDrop accessibility with the “Everyone for Ten Minutes” option. Once this is done, Quick Share will display nearby Apple devices, and the file transfer completes upon the recipient’s approval.

Currently, this feature is available only on the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold devices. However, Google has confirmed that the functionality will soon be rolled out to other Android phones as well. Users may need to manually update the Quick Share extension through settings to activate the feature.

Technology analysts say that this collaboration between Google and Apple marks a new era of cross-platform file sharing in the smartphone industry, potentially paving the way for broader ecosystem integrations in the future.
