IMF Chief Pledges Financial Support for Bangladesh 2.0 Project
Interim government’s chief advisor met with Kristalina Georgieva, managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in New York. Muhammad Yunus. “This is another country, this is Bangladesh 2.0,” the IMF Managing Director expressed his support during a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on the sideline meeting of the UN Annual General Assembly at the UN headquarters on Tuesday (September 24).
Meanwhile, Professor Yunus talked about the six commissions formed by the interim government to recommend important reforms in elections, civil administration, police, judiciary, anti-corruption and the constitution. He said that the government will discuss the recommendations of the commission with the political parties. The Chief Adviser also said that the election date will be announced once the voter list is ready after reaching a consensus on the reforms.
Georgieva said the IMF board could start a new lending program for Bangladesh based on the team’s report or provide more loans under the existing assistance program launched early last year.
