Korean drama ‘Reply 1988’ to feature star-studded Bangla voice ensemble
The remarkable Korean drama “Reply 1988” has captured the attention of viewers worldwide with its poignant story set against the backdrop of Seoul in the 1980s. Now, with its anticipated premiere on the OTT platform Bioscope, SRK Studios BD is prepared to present this cultural jewel to the Bangladeshi public.
This Korean drama, which premiered in 2015 as part of the popular “Reply” series, delves into the themes of friendship, family, and first love through the lives of five families in a Seoul neighborhood.
The project named “Reply 1988” (Amader Shoishob) and produced by Shiplu Rahman Khan, would be presented within the framework of our country. The main characters are Sharmin Zoha Shoshee as the older Deok Sun and Aisha Khan as the younger Deok Sun. In addition, Yash Rohan (Sun-Woo), Kazi Kaniz (younger Bo Ra), Abdun Noor Shajal (older Taek), Sameul Jibon (younger Taek), and Zakia Bari Mamo (older Bo Ra) are included in the cast.
Khalid Hossain Ovi, the well-known filmmaker, talked about the project and said that, out of his eight-year career this specific production is his favorite in an interview.
Most notably, Ovi gave a non-linear explanation for his choice to not dub the series. Rather of taking a different approach, he decided to showcase it in the manner of Bangladeshi dramas and films, emphasizing the distinct variations in language and cultural manifestations. He feels this will result in a more true portrayal of the nation’s aesthetic, particularly highlighting the difficulties directors have in capturing the Bengali way of life.
The original series’ director has tried to highlight even the most minute aspects of existence. That meant I also had to take responsibility for this. I have thus chosen not to dub this series. I’ll deliver it in the manner of the classic dramas and movies from our nation.”
“My goal is to create something that captures the essence of our childhood, particularly as it was in Bangladesh.” For me, this presented the most obstacle. I have thus concentrated mostly on how each character talks in the voice of the buddy of our next house,” he said.
