Mitchell Starc breaks the record for IPL auctions.
In a live broadcast on Tuesday, Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc broke records for the most money ever spent at an Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. The Kolkata Knight Riders paid 247.5 million rupees ($2.98 million) for his services.
Starc, 33, who formerly played for Royal Challengers Bangalore, will make his IPL comeback after an eight-year break.
Earlier on Tuesday, Sunrisers Hyderabad paid 205 million rupees ($2.47 million) to acquire Australia’s World Cup-winning captain Pat Cummins, making him the most expensive player in Indian Premier League history.
The fast bowler broke the $2.23 million record established by England all-rounder Sam Curran the previous year. The bowler missed this year’s IPL due to a busy schedule.
“Pumped to be joining SRH for the upcoming IPL season,” Cummins said in a video posted by the franchise on X, formerly Twitter.
“I have played in Hyderabad a few times and always loved it so can’t wait to get started.”
